Customer: Mr and Mrs O
Living in a grade two listed building, the clients wanted a traditional-style kitchen to suit their home’s architecture. It required a light and cosy ambience as originally the room felt quite dark and uninviting. The Cornell range, in a painted alabaster finish answered the brief exactly, and mixed with solid walnut worktops was instantly warm and welcoming. In their previous kitchen the design lacked worktop space so the new layout includes a clever island, clever because it’s very well considered – as the garage leads off the kitchen and sometimes large items are taken through the room, the island is fitted with casters so it can be moved as and when required. The kitchen is very practical but with the thoughtful injection of colour and pattern, from the Aga to the tweed-upholstered chair, the design has that all-important wow factor. The table and bench area is all created from the Cornell range to create a sense of continuity. This meant the children could sit comfortably within the kitchen to do their homework but it was still an inviting space for entertaining and family dinners. Curved bases on the ends of all cabinets make the design child friendly with no sharp corners.
